Congratulations to the Maluk Timor team on graduating from our Action on Poverty Partnership Program.
We’re proud to have worked with Maluk (formerly Bairo Pite Clinic) to help poor families access life-changing health care in Timor-Leste.
For more than 10 years, we’ve helped with fundraising, policy development, and more. Now that Maluk is thriving on its own, we wish the team the very best, and thank them for sharing their passion and knowledge with us.
Together, we’ve improved the capacity for hospitals, clinics and doctors to tackle some of the most serious health challenges in Timor-Leste, including Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) and Tuberculosis (TB).
Most recently, Maluk Timor offered free RHD screenings for 700 students at a school in Cailaco. This program found and treated 55 children with RHD, who might otherwise have gone undiagnosed and developed serious illness in future. These children are now on a preventative penicillin program to ensure they can live long, healthy lives.
Maluk Timor has also launched a triage program at Vera Cruz Community Health Centre. By training local staff, Maluk ensured that assessment and treatment of patients, including malnourished children, is as efficient as possible, and that patients with contagious conditions, such as TB, are isolated quickly.
Maluk Timor donors can now give directly to Maluk rather than via Action on Poverty. Please contact us if you would like to update your donation or mailing preferences.
Action on Poverty continues to support grassroots work in Timor-Leste. With our local partners, we empower poor and vulnerable communities, especially women, to set up their own long-term livelihoods so they can escape the poverty cycle.
