Portfolio Manager

A rewarding opportunity exists for a suitable candidate to join Action on Poverty, a Sydney-based, overseas development organisation that aims to make a positive difference in the lives of people throughout Africa, Asia and the Pacific.  Action on Poverty is looking for a highly motivated person that can contribute positively to managing a regional portfolio of work, and who can contribute to the development of our organisation.

The successful applicant will be an important member of our small team, contributing to a number of key organisational result areas including:

  • Contributing to the development of our organisation’s regional portfolio strategy and work plans.
  • The management, oversight and coordination of program activities
  • Providing technical and mentoring support to our partner organisations
  • Contributing to the development of Action on Poverty organisational policies and systems.

We envisage this position will be based in the targeted region. Remuneration will be commensurate with skills and experience and there is an opportunity for flexible work arrangements to be negotiated with the right candidate.

Selection Criteria

  1. An effective manager with demonstrated ability to work independently and constructively with partners.
  2. Relevant qualifications in international development, social science, or a related field.
  3. Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, and knowledge and experience with the Microsoft Office suite of programs.
  4. Minimum 5-years work experience in the development sector.
  5. Experience in developing strategies that enhance program quality.
  6. Ability to manage competing work priorities and to meet tight deadlines.
  7. Able to travel nationally and internationally on a regular basis.

Desirable:

  1. Experience working with institutional donors, particularly DFAT will be highly regarded.
  2. Experience working in a technical sector (e.g. agriculture, water and sanitation, climate change etc.) will be highly regarded.
