For Educators

AFAP Action on Poverty Speakers and Art Gallery

Reaching out to Australian communities to inform and engage on development issues through the lens of AFAP’s AusAID funded Development Awareness Raising (DAR) Non-Governmental Cooperation Program (ANCP) and Africa Australia Community Engagement Scheme (AACES) projects

AFAP Action on Poverty works in communities and with partners from Asia, the Pacific and across Africa on a range of issues like climate change, water and sanitation, child/maternal health, education and food security. The specific projects and solutions are as varied as the cultures they come from. AFAP staff travel to these sites regularly to meet with local people in country who are building irrigation ditches, water pumps, clinics and schools, or teaching children about good health pracitices and healthy diets, the list goes on and on.

Educators in action

If you would like someone with first hand experience working on the ground with local communites and who has intimate knowledge about the challeges and unique solutions to visit your primary school, participate in a university lecture panel or present at corporate event we would be happy to work with you!

We can offer interactive vsiual presentations and speakers on a range of topics including:

  • How communites are mitigating the negative effects of climate change
  • Empowering marginalised communites like women and those living with disability or HIV/AIDS
  • Alternative paths to education for children who must also act as caregivers or income generators
  • Poverty reduction through community based organisations and solutions

Our Primary School presentations are themed around the book Children Just Like Me and include worksheets that enrich the experience.

We love sharing with people of all ages and from every walk of life so just give us a call or send us an email:
